For a time, I actually thought that I had a good eye for fashion. Whenever I'd go shopping, especially for a friend, and especially for a friend with an "easy" body to dress, I would be able to pick out things that they really liked and that went well together. But lately, I've realized that I have no eye for what's fashion-forward and trendy, nor can I really tell silhouette, color and fit nuances. Especially for myself.

When I get dressed, I pretty much go with what looks good, but I miss critical things like proportion and color that emphasize or deemphasize aspects of my figure, so I am very likely to make myself look shorter, fatter or otherwise less conventionally attractive with small details. Lately, I've taken to wearing several shades of the same color at once, or having every article of clothing be a different solid color. The basics of an outfit for me is something that hides my fat folds, very comfortable, covers most of my pale skin from the sun and doesn't have much of a pattern. I don't wear things with words or obvious brands, unless they are used in funky ways. I prefer the asymmetric and unique. But I tend not to follow trends or buy clothes "in season" or when they first come out.

When I was cleaning out my closet recently, I realized that I have many pieces that I bought over a decade ago that are still awesome. I don't necessarily know if I'd call them classic, as some of them are quite funky, and this is absolutely indicative of the packrat tendencies that I'm trying to fight. However, I did end up putting some of them back into my active wardrobe - almost like having a clothing swap with myself! I think this is also because I don't care about what's new and hot and I just go with what I like.

As I've said before, I'd love to design my own clothes but have no idea how. But the more I think about it, the more I realize I need lots of professional designer advice not just on implementation, but on fit and proportion for my own body as well.
