What is the Freudian analysis of this aspect of my personality?

I hate making beds. I see no point whatsoever. It is a waste of time and resources, and I recently even read that it contributes to bed bug problems. I am not at this point selling my house, and if I ever have to, I hope to be able to sell empty rooms rather than have someone buy or not buy because of my taste and decoration preferences.

I doubly see no point in making a guest bed. If you are leaving, you can assume I will wash your sheets and will have to unfold before putting them in the washer. This is not a personal stab at anyone, this is my personal stab at so-called custom.

Does anyone have any pro arguments, other than aesthetic ones?

Хм, меньше пыли попадает на простыни, если они под покрывалом?
Или вот в джинсах можно залезать на кровать, накрытую покрывалом. Если сразу на простыни - то вроде негигиенично.

Впрочем, я тоже не застилаю кровать и, о ужас, не глажу простыни)

Может у меня и пыльно, но я достаточно часто их стираю что бы пыль на них не была проблемой. В джинсах я в основном сижу на диване или в кресле, а если и сяду то всегда можно сесть на место где одеяло лежит. Я таки прикрываю подушки одеялом, ведь кошки забираются на них как по ступенькам на полку.

А я вообще ничего не глажу! Купила новый утюг, стоит он в шкафу в упаковке!

Угу, и некоторые мои друзья уверены, что на глаженых спать приятнее.
Было несколько неловко предлагать им неглаженые, когда они оставались у меня в доме.

C сушкой у них все равно вид неглаженых :(
Хотя, впрочем, с учетом того что у меня сейчас king size bed, я бы утонула в этих простынях, попытайся я их погладить.

Говорят, что если из сушки сразу выловить и сложить то нормально. Меня и на такое не хватает. Сижу вот сейчас в постели, смотрю на свои родные-неглаженые, и думаю - главное что ткань мягкая, могу еще так до мужиного прихода пролежать (ибо спинка болит).

У меня не аргументы, а просто другая точка зрения или даже pet peeve :)) С разобранной постелью мне кажется, что комната выглядит неряшливо (и ещё что день так и не начался... - поэтому я ничего не могу делать, пока постель не убрала, это как умыться и зубы почистить). Меня просто трясёт, если гости постель свою не застилают (ну т.е. трясло, когда мы жили в двухкомнатной квартире - сейчас мне пофиг, гости спят в кабинете и это легче игнорировать).
Кроме того, я физически не способна садиться на разобранную постель в одежде. Приходится застилать :))

Одно дело постель не застилать пока гости еще не уехали, я про те стопки которые я нахожу на диване после. А про садиться - see above.

i may do it as a gesture of thanks to the host, as in, "i appreciate the creature comforts of your guest room and am respectful of your efforts to be a host -- even if my 'work' folding sheets or making the beds are futile, i am doing something just to make the effort"

BTW, one of our cats for some reason always wants to be on the bed when I'm changing the sheets. And it's the skittish one, too, so I can only assume that she likes getting fabric flung at her.

I can't stand the sight of my bed if it is completely not made. I throw the sheet in such a way that it covers most of it :0)

No logic to this, just my pet peeve.

I can throw the duvet that way, too. I don't consider that actually making a bed - arranging the pillows, pulling things tight, maybe hospital corners (although we don't use flat sheets).

Ты знаешь, я этим вопросом тоже задавалась, и где-то у меня в ЖЖ была даже дискуссия на эту тему, но потом случилось вот что: ко мне пришли чуваки и принесли купленный нами телевизор, а в комнате, куда они его заносили, была незастеленная постель, и это было так вопиюще неприлично, что вопрос "зачем" сам собой отпал. Наверно, если есть отдельная спальня, то можно там держать постель в каком угодно виде, но если комнат всего две, то увы.

Yes, the entire premise is predicated on a separate bedroom. Although, I don't think I made the bed when I had a one-room apartment, either...

I don't generally make my bed, but we also have a fairly firm rule of "no street clothes on the bed". I do make the bed of where I'm a guest if I'm staying multi-night, largely because guestrooms rarely have extra things to sit on. (I may very well fold sheets on leaving, for pure esthetics/local custom, but not particularly conscientiously).

Yeah, we generally pull the blanket over the top if there are street clothes involved. I can understand the multi-night stays, but it's the final folding of the sheets that baffles me.
