Встречаю в воскресение в Торговце Жопе своего школьного друга и его старшую дочь, ей вроде лет 6. Поговорили о жизни-детях-работе-машинах-старых друзей. Вчера приходит электронное приглашение на крестины его третьего и четвертого ребенка (2 года и почти 3 месяца). В эту субботу. Типа "вспомнили". Я, конечно не пойду - мне его ревитализированный католицизм сами знаете насколько нужен. Но тем не менее, забавно.

Do you mean he invited me pro forma or went religious? I had a conversation with him about the latter and I think he really is serious about it. He didn't grow up very religious (in SF!) and before he got his girlfriend pregnant, had a habit of having a girlfriend and an ex and switching them places every once in a while. Then he got married and decided that Jesus was his crutch in life. And he put it this way, too, because I was talking about how religion is a crutch for people who can't be responsible for themselves.

I guess maybe then religious people are right, when they talk about how it's only religion that is keeping them from going all out of control and breaking law. (You know what I'm talking about? Usually, that point is brought up in conversations about religion and morality.)

Ну, если у них такой план... Вообще, не знаю с чем это все связано, или они не предохраняются, или католицизм сказывается, или просто хотят много... он мне сказал что после первого ребенка все просто - поиграть до сна, почитать книжки и в люлю. Конечно, жена дома с детьми а он играется. Таки правда что старшие дети развлекают младших, но детей же не только развлекать надо.

Как только старший ребенок доростет до лет 5, they begin to boss others around. So, that helps with the discipline. I watched a couple of kids like that. Of course, they only had 2, max 3 kids.

I know older kids tend to help out with the younger ones, but I don't like the idea where there are so many children in the family that the older ones are deputized. Children should get to be children, even while learning responsibility. I'm referring specifically to extreme situations such as the Duggars, where they have what they call a buddy system, but for all intents and purposes the older children raise the younger ones.
